The skirt is a classic poodle skirt shape. For the peter pan collar, I cut red felt and sewed a mock collar that fit right around the neck. The sweatshirt is a standard run of the mill white crew neck, which you could get from anywhere, and I special ordered the Rydell High patch. My daughter’s Sandy Olsson costume was my DIY. Danny is well known for his hairstyle, so this is a must! I accessorized the outfit with a pack of fake cigarettes and a comb. He wears white socks with black loafer type shoes, which normally would be a fashion faux paux, but Danny makes it work. You can do bad Sandy in her black hot pants and big curly hair or classic, good Sandy in her cheerleader costume. The best part of doing a Grease costume is you can do a couple of different variations. My son thought he was the coolest with Danny’s leather jacket, and my daughter thought her Sandy outfit was super fun, especially for twirling. This year my kids dressed up as Danny and Sandy from Grease, and we made them a car to match! Our whole DIY Grease Lightning Costumes set up was pretty amazing. This is easier to accomplish when your kids are younger, because they still think it’s fun to dress up and match each other. It makes for a great photo opportunity (and perhaps some embarrassing pictures when they are older, too). I love to dress my kids in coordinating costumes for Halloween.
